Evaluation of Automated Vehicle Technology for Transit

Evaluation of Automated Vehicle Technology for Transit

"The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the state of automated vehicle (AV) technology in transit. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) wishes to know what AV technology is currently available that could be used in transit with an eye towards possible demonstration projects."

Key findings

Currently, any transit-related demonstration of AV technology in transit would require significant work on current buses.

Current work on transit-related AVs is lacking significance and the ones that have been discussed are having a difficult time coming to fruition.

The USDOT's Connected Vehicle Safety Pilot Model Deployment did not involve any bus manufacturers.
