How Buildings Are Tackling the Problem of Package Pile-Up

The increasing popularity of online shopping is causing more package deliveries to apartment buildings than the building can handle. New apps, services and building lobby designs are attempting to manage this issue.

Key findings

Many new residential buildings are being designed with designated package rooms to manage tenant’s deliveries. However, this is much more difficult for existing buildings that do not have the room to expand.

“A survey in August from the trade publication Multi-Family Executive found that nearly 17 percent of respondents — some 22,800 renters — receive five to 10 packages a month. That number likely doubles in December.”

“More than a quarter of respondents had experienced problems or inefficiencies with receiving packages.”
