Self-driving shuttles could roll out on Treasure Island by 2020

The San Francisco County Transportation Authority will test self-driving shuttles on Treasure Island, as well as introduce a toll system from the Bay Bridge to the island.

Key findings

The SFCTA says it will test self-driving 12-passenger vehicles on Treasure Island over two years and prepare for service in 2020.

The shuttle is meant to provide first and last mile transport to and from future ferry service on Treasure Island.

The projects are supported by a $11 million federal grant awarded to the City of San Francisco to implement six transportation projects, with the goal of reducing traffic congestion.
