Transportation network companies like Uber and Lyft came onto the market with the mission to reduce congestion in cities, however data from major cities around the U.S. shows that they may be having the opposite impact on congestion and public transportation.

"About 67 percent of all TNC vehicles added to the network are new cars and only 33 percent are substitutes, which significantly increases congestion."



San Francisco is considering a congestion pricing proposal that would charge cars more for driving during peak periods or in areas more prone to gridlock.


