Hungry? Call Your Neighborhood Delivery Robot

Robots delivering takeout from restaurants have begun circulating in Washington D.C.

Key findings

The mission of these robots is to provide delivery service with a low delivery fee, around one dollar.

The robots have a compartment for the takeout, lights, and a flag to make them visible, and a smartphone unlocks the robot's lid to allow access to the delivery.

Self-driving robots have been allowed to operate in the District of Columbia and Virginia due to passed legislation. Florida and Idaho have been working on similar legislation while other states are considering adopting laws as well.
